Dass dann die erste Garde von Rock- und Folkmusikern Jimmy Carters Kandidatur zum Präsidenten unterstützt, ihn ins Weisse Haus bringt und sich dort ein Klima von Popkultur ausbreitet: Das hat man so noch nie gesehen. Wenn Paul Simon zur Amtseinführung Carters 1977 sagt: «Vielleicht liegt eine Zeit der Gerechtigkeit vor uns», dann klingt das geradezu herzergreifend in einer politischen Atmosphäre, wie wir sie gerade erleben.
