SpongeBob ist enttäuscht, weil nicht er, sondern sein grießgrämiger Kollege Thaddäus Tentakel zum Manager der "Krossen Krabbe 2" befördert wird. Sein Chef Mr. Krabs denkt, dass SpongeBob für diesen verantwortungsvollen Posten zu kindisch sei. Als kurz darauf Neptuns Krone gestohlen und Mr. Krabs des Diebstahls verdächtigt wird, sieht SpongeBob seine große Chance gekommen. Gemeinsam mit seinem etwas einfältigen besten Kumpel Patrick begibt er sich auf ein haarsträubendes Abenteuer, um die gestohlene Krone wiederzufinden.
