Reports in English: Asian Bradford

Bradford in Northern Yorkshire used to be well-known as a flourishing centre of the textile industry. In recent years, however, the city hit the headlines as the scene of major race riots, even though the city had tried to support intercultural communication and the integration of various ethnic minorities. After the riots in 2001, the race relations report described Bradford as a 'divided city'. Its inner suburbs are largely populated by ethnic Asians who migrated there from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in the 1960s and 70s. Many Asians have created their own business world and have limited contact with the white community. In this separate world, it is the young Asian women who feel most oppressed by the cultural conflicts they experience every day. The film shows their economic and social situation.
