Ted (Keanu Reeves) und Bill (Alex Winter) stehen mächtig unter Druck: Ein Geschichtsreferat hat entscheidenden Einfluss auf ihre Zukunft und deshalb muss es verdammt gut werden. Da kommen Rufus (George Carlin) und seine Zeitmaschine wie gerufen. So können Ted und Bill Zeitzeugen wie Sokrates, Napoleon, Sigmund Freud und Billy the Kid gleich selbst interviewen. Ein Haufen Tumulte ist vorprogrammiert. - Anfang der 1990er wurden zwei TV-Serien ("Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures") produziert: eine im Zeichentrick-Format und eine mit echten Schauspielern. Außerdem gab es ein Video-Spiel gleichen Namens und in den USA die Marvel-Comic-Reihe "Bill and Ted's Excellent Comic Book".
