While the Berlin Wall became the symbol of the Cold War, another border was just as deadly: the Baltic Sea. For nearly 30 years, thousands of East Germans risked everything to flee the GDR across the water. Almost 6,000 people attempted the dangerous journey to West Germany or Denmark. At least 140 died trying - more than at the Berlin Wall.
