Doris ist davon überzeugt, dass ihr Mann sie betrügt. Als sie ihn eines Tages tatsächlich mit einer anderen Frau sieht, schießt sie in ihrer Wut auf ihn. Staatsanwalt Adam Bonner klagt sie daraufhin wegen versuchten Mordes an, doch als Adams Frau, ebenfalls eine Juristin, von der Geschichte hört, ergreift sie Doris' Partei und versucht, sie vor dem Gefängnis zu bewahren.
