Max und Lola Burdette sind kein normales Paar, sie sind zwei Meisterdiebe. Nach einem erfolgreichen letzten Beutezug wollen sie sich auf eine tropische Insel zurückziehen. Doch ihr Erzfeind, der FBI-Agent Stan Lloyd, glaubt nicht wirklich daran, dass die beiden sich zur Ruhe setzen werden, denn im Hafen des paradiesischen Eilands liegt ein Luxusdampfer mit wertvoller Ladung.
